This report presents crime and arrest data and law enforcement employee data, based on information from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, for Arkansas during 1978.
Abstract
The goals, history, reporting procedure, scope, and limitations of the UCR Program in the State are described. Information is presented on the amount of Index crime statewide; on Index offenses by contributor; on the value of property stolen and recovered; on arrests by age, race, sex, and county; and on the number of law enforcement officers assaulted. In 1978, there were 7,209 violent crimes reported, an increase of 9.5 percent over 1977. A total of 65,614 property crimes were reported during the year, an increase of 6.8 percent over 1977. Total arrests for 1978 equaled 112,254, and over $29 million of property was stolen during the year. The five largest law enforcement jurisdictions in Arkansas, representing 19.5 percent of the State's population, accounted for 45 percent of the Index crime for 1978. Tables and graphs compose the bulk of the report.
