Significant data and relevant statistics concerning crime in Arizona during 1980 are presented in this annual report.
Abstract
The history and objectives of the Arizona Uniform Crime Reporting system are described and a portrait and profile of Arizona are highlighted. During the year, there were 221,329 Crime Index offenses reported, 18 percent of which were cleared. A total of 17,640 violent crimes were reported to law enforcement agencies, an increase of 22 percent over 1979. In 1980, law enforcement agencies reported 276 murders, an increase of 27 percent over 1979, the largest percentage increase of the 8 Index crimes. Handguns were used in 46 percent of all murders. A total of 136,847 persons were arrested for all criminal acts, and adults accounted for 79 percent of all violent crime arrests. Juveniles accounted for 50 pecent of all property crimes and 25 percent of all arrests made during 1980. Data are given for Part 1 Index crimes, incuding murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In addition, Part 1 and Part 2 arrest data and law enforcement data are supplied. Tables, charts, a crime clock, graphs, a map of Arizona counties, and a glossary of terms are provided.
