This report presents the proceedings of a meeting held by European criminologists to discuss recent research on policing, the policy implications of research on crime victims, and the concept of the privatization of social control and its implications for society and corrections.
Abstract
Other topics examined included the situation of ethnic minorities with respect to crime and their treatment by criminal justice agencies and problems related to imprisonment. The analyses focused on the effectiveness and efficiency of the police in different countries, interagency cooperation, community policing, fear of crime, the psychological effects of victimization, victim services, and sentencing policies. Participants came from Belgium, England, Norway, The Netherlands, France, Sweden, and West Germany. Tables and chapter reference lists
