This report presents both crime and arrest data for Alabama during 1991.
Abstract
There were 209,821 crimes reported in Alabama in 1991, an 8-percent increase over 1990. Alabama's crime rate was 5,131 per 100,000 inhabitants. The total property value stolen in 1991 was $269,594,564; 17 percent of this property was recovered. A total of 34,716 persons were arrested for the more serious Part I Uniform Crime Reporting offenses. Part I arrests made up 18 percent of all arrests in Alabama in 1991. A total of 159,050 persons (5 percent juveniles) were arrested for Part II offenses. In 1991, 176,070 property crimes and 33,751 violent crimes were reported. Violent crimes, which increased by 21 percent over 1990, made up 16 percent of the total index offenses. A total of 14,135 violent crimes were cleared in 1991 for a 42-percent clearance rate. 54 figures and 24 tables
