This is a handbook for drug service intervention in a court setting.
Abstract
The book outlines techniques involved in intervention in a court setting, and explains why some courts are more open to successful outreach work than others. It shows how a range of services and individuals can be supported by the presence of a drug outreach worker at court. These include court staff, prosecutors, advocates and the probation service, as well as other agencies that could benefit from better access to a difficult to reach, and often marginalized, client group. Outreach work can support three principal objectives: increasing the safety of communities from drug-related crime; reducing the availability and acceptability of drugs to young people; and reducing the health risks and other damage related to drug misuse. The book examines the strengths and weaknesses of court-based outreach work; assessing suitability; pointers for successful outreach; getting started; case studies; and funds, evaluation and quality.
