Abstract
On average, there were 35,131 inmates in Florida's county detention facilities during the reporting period, an increase of 0.3 percent over the previous month. Adult males accounted for 87 percent of the total, adult females for 10.4 percent, and juveniles for 2.6 percent. Over 70 percent of the total inmate population were incarcerated for felony offenses; offenders held for trial represented 56.7 percent of the inmate population, while 26.1 percent were serving sentences for either felony or misdemeanor convictions. Inmates detained for probation violations accounted for 8.1 percent of the population. In August 1992, over 16 percent of Florida counties had average daily inmate populations which exceeded their capacity. This report tabulates average daily population figures, incarceration rates for each county, the number of overcrowded county detention facilities, and the pretrial inmate levels for each facility. 3 figures and 4 tables
