Data collected from Florida's 67 county jail systems for the January 1, 1988, to December 31, 1990, period are reported.
Abstract
The report includes annual percentages for the year 1990, average daily populations of inmate categories for each of the 3 years, county incarceration rates per 1,000 population, authorized Department of Corrections rated capacity in comparison to the average daily populations reported for each of the 3 years, and trends in county jail inmate populations on a statewide basis. The data shows a continued increase in inmate populations in county jails into 1990. The average annual adult daily population (ADP) figure was 33,628 for 1990; 87.2 percent of that figure were adult males, 10.4 percent adult females, 2.3 percent male juveniles, and 0.1 percent female juveniles. Pretrial detainees made up 61.2 percent (20,588) of the annual average ADP. The incarceration rates per 1,000 population ranged from a low of 0.9 in Charlotte County to 8.6 in Hamilton County. Statewide capacity was 33,413; ADP was 34,614 or 3.6 percent over the statewide rated capacity. 2 figures and 8 tables
