The papers in this special issue were presented at the Third Liverpool Conference on Fraud, Corruption, and Business Crime, held in March 1993.
Abstract
The general theme of these papers is how governments can achieve effective control of misconduct in this area. The first paper examines racketeering in Northern Ireland, showing how the political situation in that country has exacerbated the lack of public support for eliminating racketeering. The BCCI affair was the largest single issue with which the conference was concerned, particularly in terms of lessons learned regarding regulatory failure. Three other papers deal with smaller institutions which are nonetheless important in terms of white collar crime. These include small business, insider dealing in financial institutions, and regulation in the criminal courts. Chapter references
