This User's Guide for the Probation component of the Corrections Statistical Analysis Tool (CSAT), which is accessible on the home page of the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) (accessible through this NCJRS entry), describes CSAT features that enable users to access data on probationers from the Annual Probation Survey and quickly generate tables of the year-end adult probation population, supervision rates, and probation entries and exits.
Abstract
The CSAT includes national, Federal, and State probation data. The custom tables enable users to obtain counts of the year-end probation population by sex, race or Hispanic origin, felony or misdemeanor offense, most serious offense, and status of probation supervision. A step-by-step procedure with web screen figures on how to access the probation component of the CSAT is provded in this User's Guide. Separate sections of the guide provide instructions on how to access the various "quick" tables and "custom" tables of the CSAT's probation component. Information is provided on BJS' Annual Probation Survey, along with supporting documents related to this survey and the Annual Parole Survey. Instruction is provided on how to cite data from the CSAT when publishing its tables. Contact information for additional questions is also provided. 12 figures
