PAMPHLET DESCRIBES LEAA'S ROLE IN CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS AND ASSISTANCE FUNDING SERVICES FOR STATE AND LOCAL PLANNING AGENCIES.
Abstract
THE CORRECTIONS DIVISION, A PART OF THE OFFICE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAMS IN LEAA, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT THE STATES RECEIVE FUNDS FOR CORRECTION PROGRAMS INCLUDING PLANNING GRANTS, DISCRETIONARY GRANTS, BLOCK ACTION GRANTS AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FUNDING. THE WORK OF THE LEAA REGIONAL OFFICES AND THE STATE PLANNING AGENCIES IS BRIEFLY DESCRIBED INCLUDING A COMPLETE ADDRESS LIST OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS. REPRESENTATIVE FUNDING AND EXPENDITURES ON CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS DURING FISCAL 1970 ARE GIVEN IN TERMS OF BLOCK ACTION AND DISCRETIONARY GRANTS. THE PAMPHLET DESCRIBES THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FUNDS AND SERVICES PROVIDED BY LEAA TO STATES FOR PLANNING AND DESIGNING REGIONAL AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONAL CENTERS FOR ADULTS AND JUVENILES. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL ELEMENTS OF ADULT CORRECTIONS AND JUVENILES AND YOUTH PROGRAMS, INCLUDING PROBATION, PAROLE, JAILS AND INSTITUTIONS AS WELL AS STATE AND LOCAL PLANNING AGENCIES SERVICE ALSO INCLUDES SPECIALTIES SUCH AS CORRECTIONAL ARCHITECTURE, MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY, COMMUNITY PROGRAMS HALFWAY HOUSES, GROUP HOMES, PRISON INDUSTRIES, VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND EDUCATION. ANY STATE, COUNTY, OR LOCAL PLANNING AGENCY CAN OBTAIN THESE SERVICES WITHOUT COST.
