This report describes the structure of Canada's correctional system, its Federal offender population, offender management from initial assessment to post-release supervision, conditional release programs, and major initiatives of Canada's Correctional Service.
Abstract
The Correctional Service of Canada is responsible for the administration of sentences of all offenders sentenced to imprisonment for 2 years or more. It administers 60 institutions at 4 levels of security. The rate of imprisonment is 108 per 100,000 total population. The case management process begins with initial assessment and continues with case planning and programming, conditional release assessment, and post-release supervision. Conditional release includes escorted and unescorted temporary absence, day parole, full parole, and mandatory supervision. Tables
