Abstract
Individual papers describe the history and purpose of correctional treatment, research on the effectiveness of correctional counseling, and the functions and special issues faced by correctional counselors. Additional papers discuss techniques used in the diagnosis and assessment of criminal offenders and the purposes and types of offender classification systems. Other papers explain psychoanalytic theory and the specific features of person-centered therapy, cognitive therapies, and behavioral therapies. Other papers discuss family therapy, group and milieu therapy, transactional analysis, and the organization of offender self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and human potential groups.
