Abstract
After discussing the diverse challenges facing the contemporary security director, the book treats the proper structuring of the security department within the corporation. Guidelines address the organization of a security department. Other topics covered include management techniques and styles, staffing, budgetmaking, and monitoring a current budget. Although prevention is advocated as the best loss prevention strategy, the text also emphasizes the need for expertise in investigations. An outline for integrating the security function into the total risk management concept considers the insurance function. Additional issues examined include liability, protection of corporate information, and contract security services. The text explores the functions of security in a labor-organized company and relationships with other corporations and customers. An overview of future trends in security focuses on relevant research in electronics, robotics, personal identification, and computerization. The appendixes provide job descriptions, training outlines, sample forms and surveys, and model curriculums. Tables, figures, and index.
