Security directors and managers need to be aware of the advantages and drawbacks of contract security in order to get the most out of a contract service while avoiding as many potential problems as possible. Clients and security firms alike must work to set standards for effective contract security.
Abstract
The six basic steps for selecting a contract security firm include developing a prebid questionnaire, establishing a qualified bidders list, reviewing proposals, comparing the finalists, and awarding the contract. The client must put a lot of effort into the selection process, but the investment in risk reduction is worth it. This type of process also helps to build a mutually beneficial and satisfactory relationship between client and vendor. This author offers eight simple guidelines to successfully using a contract security firm: respect, open-mindedness, communication, mutual support, positive security awareness, loyalty, sympathy, and reasonableness.
