THE PROCEEDINGS OF A CONFERENCE CONCERNED WITH IMPROVING MECHANISMS FOR RESOLVING CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ARE DOCUMENTED.
Abstract
THE CONFERENCE WAS A NONADVERSARIAL PUBLIC POLICY FORUM, IN WHICH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS DISCUSSED AND DEBATED CONSUMER DISPUTE SETTLEMENT POLICY, MECHANISMS, AND ISSUES. THE PROCEEDINGS REPORT PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE STATUS OF CONSUMER GRIEVANCE MECHANISMS, PLUS A SUMMARY OF GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, AND CONSUMER PERSPECTIVES ON CONSUMER REDRESS ISSUES. INCLUDED IN THE REPORT ARE DISCUSSIONS OF THE NEED FOR CONSUMER REDRESS; REVIEWS OF REDRESS POLICIES AND MECHANISMS; THE VIEWS OF CONSUMERS, REGULATORY AGENCIES, AND BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES REGARDING CONSUMER REDRESS POLICY; AND EXAMPLES OF PUBLIC POLICY ALTERNATIVES FOR PROVIDING CONSUMER REDRESS (FEDERAL LEGISLATION, A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROPOSAL, CONSUMER ARBITRATION).
