This report summarizes the Comprehensive State Plan for Drug/Alcohol Services for the FY89 and its FY90 update. It presents an overview of the functions and duties of the Illinois Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA).
Abstract
It covers the legislative mandate, the goals of the DASA, its early history and accomplishments, and a brief description of the administrative structures of the DASA. State demographic data is outlined together with the demographics of admissions to treatment programs and an analysis of the incidence and prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse in each of the five regions of DASA. The report provides an overview of the continuum of services provided covering prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare. It also lists some of the special projects and programs under development. In conclusion, the report provides information about the profile of the substance abuser, predicts future trends in alcohol and drug abuse, estimates future needs for services and treatment, and describes the services network developed to meet these needs. 18 tables
