Abstract
The manual assumes that the reader has knowledge of the topic or access to such knowledge, either through experts or published materials. It summarizes the crucial topic areas necessary to developing and using family strengthening programs. These include the role of families in juvenile delinquency prevention, definitions of family strengthening programs and the variety of available program models, the effectiveness of family strengthening programs, strategies for families at different levels of risk, matching programs to family needs, and program resources available. The guidance on setting the conference or workshop agenda includes suggestions for organizing the information into individual training sessions. It also alerts the user to issues that might influence the selection of material and the modes of presentation. The section on logistics presents practical suggestions on planning and implementation of a conference, with emphasis on how to handle the details that help an event go smoothly.
