Abstract
At the Iowa State Penitentiary, adult basic education (ABE) programs as well as vocational training courses have been supplemented with computer-based and computer-supported components. An initial grant, provided in 1984, was used to acquire hardware, identify and acquire courseware and instructional materials, and train the facility faculty. Computer-based support for adult basic education in the facility was evaluated on several bases including project implementation, inservice training, administrative support, student attitudes and achievements, and faculty and staff attitudes. Overall, the project has been deemed a success.
