Abstract
The author has culled the incidents from both published and unpublished sources, classified them, and analyzed their causes. Management is shown better ways of managing computer-related risks. A comprehensive classification of the perils facing computer systems covers acts of God and acts of villains, accidental damage and deliberate attack, flagrant or subtle crime and mischief, and threats to life and property. The specific cases follow, each with its own analysis, all comprehensively indexed. These cases are then used to exemplify the failures of security whose causes are described in detail. Drawing on the principles of risk management, the final chapter provides a foundation for management action to provide cost-effective protection against computer security risks (computer insecurity). Photographs, a subject index, 130 references, and an appended list of sources and researchers are provided. (Publisher summary modified)
