This document describes a program designed to strengthen opportunities of juvenile delinquents and/or youth offenders in the Dallas Independent School District and the Dallas County Juvenile Department Detention Center (Texas).
Abstract
The project's goals, expected outcomes, and activities are outlined. Major project components outlined include staff development programs, community-based programs, the interagency-interaction model, and the exceptional child component. Other components discussed are the multicultural component, teacher-intern component, leadership training program, and adoption and institutionalization. Two additional components include graduate credit for training activities and the teacher corps project center. Major processes described include aspects of the organizational structure; the recruitment, selection, and organization of the teacher corps team; and a plan of action for the instructional program. Also presented are proposed strategies for the management, evaluation, dissemination, and institutional adoption of such a program. Figures, tables, and approximatly 40 references are provided.
