This document is the first comprehensive report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) that presents an overview of Federal criminal case processing.
The compendium, covering activity during calendar year 1984, describes the progress of criminal suspects through the criminal justice system from prosecution through adjudication, sentencing, and corrections. Intended for use by criminal justice policymakers, practitioners, and researchers, the data are arranged in both tabular and text formats. Data sources include the Executive Office for the U.S. Attorneys, the Pretrial Services Agency (PSA), the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and the U.S. Parole Commission. Future editions will incorporate data from other Federal agencies. The methodology section describes the procedures used to link data and develop specific tables, while the data notes provide information relevant to individual tables.
