THIS REPORT ILLUSTRATES THE EFFECT IN INCREASING THE REPORTING OF VICTIMIZATION THAT A COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION PROJECT CAN HAVE.
Abstract
THE KEYS TO SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM ARE COORDINATION, COMMITMENT, COOPERATION, AND COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM WAS FOUND TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN REDUCING THE BURGLARY VICTIMIZATION OF THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS. ALSO, BURGLARY REPORTING RATES IN THE AREA INCREASED, AND THERE WAS A HIGHER PROPORTION OF CALLS TO THE POLICE FOR IN-PROGRESS BURGLARS THAN BEFORE THE PROGRAM MET OR EXCEEDED ITS GOAL OF INVOLVING 30 PERCENT OF THE TARGET-AREA HOUSEHOLDS....BDS
