This teacher's manual is for a seminar that instructs Pennsylvania municipal officials in the nature and value of community crime prevention programs, particularly the statewide Crime Watch Program, so as to increase their informed support for such programs.
Abstract
The first of six modules acquaints participants with the seminar agenda and goals. The second module describes the nature of the local and State crime problem, acquaints participants with the consequences of crime for citizens' quality of life, and discusses the costs and inadequacies of relying on the criminal justice system to deal with crime. The third module defines crime prevention and presents crime prevention strategies. The Pennsylvania Crime Watch Program is described in the fourth module, including its goals, components, and recent activity additions. The fifth module identifies the components of effective crime prevention programs and discusses those aspects of crime prevention programs that usually concern municipal officials. The sixth module summarizes the seminar's content and goals. Information for each module covers the time required, objectives, teaching techniques, materials required, resources, and lesson plan.
