EXAMINATION OF THE AWARDING OF COLLEGE CREDIT BY COMMUNITY COLLEGES, FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES, AND UNIVERSITIES TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED CERTAIN LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COURSES.
Abstract
TRENDS IDENTIFIED INCLUDE A WILLINGNESS TO AWARD COLLEGE CREDITS TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE SUCESSFULLY COMPLETED LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS WITH NATIONAL REPUTATIONS FOR EXCELLENCE (THE FBI NATIONAL ACADEMY, SOUTHERN POLICE INSTITUTE, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY TRAFFIC INSTITUTE) OR IN WHICH THEIR OWN COLLEGE STAFF MEMBERS ARE DEEPLY INVOLVED AS LECTURERS. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE WILLINGNESS ON THE PART OF THE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO BECOME ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COURSES AND TO INCORPORATE INTO THEIR TRAINING PROGRAMS BOTH COLLEGE FACULTY MEMBERS AND COURSE MATERIALS NORMALLY COVERED PRIMARILY IN THE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS INCLUDED.
