Abstract
Facilities planning an "in stride" change must work hard to change basic mindsets and hardened attitudes. Principles of the changeover program include: (1) Work hard to establish a direct and reciprocal line of communication with your counterpart; (2) Establish a basic philosophy for dealing with the residents that both agencies can live with; (3) Establish a clear understanding of who is responsible for what; (4) Go directly to your counterpart in the event of a problem; (5) When things go wrong, use staff debriefings to reevaluate policy and procedure to make appropriate changes the object is to do better next time, not to establish blame; (6) Try to understand each other's needs; and (7) Find opportunities to promote the positive things done to make each other look good. The close cooperation, respect, communication, and trust between providers in the school setting is the foundation upon which all else is built. References
