This document of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) provides guidelines and suggestions for community-based coalitions interested in establishing programmatic solutions to substance abuse-related concerns.
Abstract
In the first phase of CADCA's strategy, the coalition must decide what it wants from town meetings. Once that has been decided, the group can determine where to hold town meetings and begin promoting them. Phase Two includes detailed suggestions on how to conduct the meetings, from seating arrangements to briefing aids. Phase Three involves formalizing input and follow-up, turning solution statements into quantified objectives. The coalition should also create a database of town meeting attendees. This database should become a mailing list for future meetings and coalition activities, a source of volunteers and potential donors, and a resource pool of advocates when needed to appear before city councils or potential funding sources. The document includes the names of coalitions doing outstanding work sponsoring town meetings and instructions on how to link up with them and how to receive a list of resources regarding holding town meetings
