The role of a citizens' advisory board in a correctional setting is examined.
Abstract
Benefits for correctional organizations with such a board include alerting management to developments in industry, business, or academia that can impact positively on corrections; providing expertise in various fields; presenting new perspective on old problems; serving as vehicles for strategic problems; and meeting the needs of correctional agencies and board members. To establish a citizens' advisory board, excellent recruitment sources can be found in the criminal justice system, church groups, service organizations, colleges and universities, and the media. A good mix of demographic characteristics together with a motivation and willingness to work will provide a well rounded advisory board. 1 photograph
