This paper studies how 11 disadvantaged adolescents participating in an intermediate, or community-based, treatment unit near Glasgow, Scotland, construe their social world and whether they have self-esteem as evaluated by the repertory grid technique.
Abstract
The unit's treatment philosophy is based on the belief that providing a stable, secure environment, in which members could form relationships with other youths and adults, would promote feelings of self-worth. However, the youths studied appeared to have poor regard for themselves and others in their neighborhood, although they did not appear to identify with delinquents.
