This volume presents a time schedule, reprints of research articles and technical reports, and other resource materials for a training program designed to provide professionals with knowledge and guidelines regarding the nature and extent of child sexual abuse among American Indians as well as its prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution, treatment, and victim services.
Abstract
Topics for the 4-day course include an overview of the problem of child sexual abuse, the initial stages of response to an allegation of child sexual abuse, and the scope of the problem in Indian communities. Other topics include the history and procedures of tribal courts; the role of Federal courts; rules of evidence; specific evidentiary issues involved in child sexual abuse cases; and the roles of parents, health care professionals, school officials, law enforcement, social services, tribal leaders, attorneys, court-appointed special advocates, and child protection teams. Other sessions cover sentencing, treatment, and resource development; foster care, guardianship, adoption, and permanency planning; and problem areas. Chapter tables and reference lists, illustrations, figures, case exercises, sample forms, checklists, handouts, and related materials are included
