This September 1985 hearing of a U.S. Senate subcommittee focused on the problem of child pornography and legislation that would strengthen the penalties and forfeiture provisions for cases involving child pornography.
Abstract
The bill also provides for a mandatory life sentence for the kidnapping of a child and for mandatory 5-year sentences for repeat child pornographers. Another section addresses the issue of background checks of people working in child care facilities. Speakers before the committee included a United States senator, leaders of advocacy organizations, two representatives of the American Bar Association, and a U.S. Department of Justice official. Comments focused on the nature and extent of the problem, the 1984 Federal law on child pornography, enforcement efforts, and criminal justice procedures. Text of the bill and written statements are included.
