This report presents statistics on child abuse and neglect in Missouri during calendar year 2000.
Abstract
The report compiles data collected by the Missouri Department of Social Services, Division of Family Services in the course of Child Abuse and/or Neglect investigations/assessments. During 2000 there were 50,936 reports of child abuse/neglect involving 79,693 children. There were 6,871 probable cause reports involving 9,854 children; this represents approximately 13 percent of all reports. Across the State, a total of 30,960 reports were screened Family Assessment (FA). Thirty-five children died in 2000 as a result of abuse/neglect. The report contains definitions of special terms in the legal, operational, FA, and methodological spheres; describes perpetrator demographics; explains the FA approach to child protection; and describes several prevention/treatment services.
