THIS STATISTICAL REPORT PRESENTS DATA ON POPULATION MOVEMENTS, COMPARATIVE INFORMATION ON CHARACTERISTICS OF NEW COMMITMENTS FOR 1970-1974, AND DATA ON TRAITS OF NEW COMMITMENTS DURING 1974 BY REASON FOR COMMITMENT.
Abstract
THIS REPORT IS ONE OF A SERIES TO MAKE DATA AVAILABLE ON THE INMATE POPULATION OF THE FACILITIES OF THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES. THE DATA IN THIS REPORT COVER CHARACTERISTICS OF MALES AND FEMALES ADMITTED TO DEPARTMENT FACILITIES ON DIRECT COURT COMMITMENTS, TRANSFERS FROM INSTITUTIONS OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT AND AFFIRMATIONS OF SENTENCE, DURING THE FIVE YEAR PERIOD 1970-1974. THESE CHARACTERISTICS INCLUDE: REASON FOR COMMITMENT; COUNTY OF COMMITMENT; PRIOR ADULT CRIMINAL RECORD; MAXIMUM SENTENCE; MINIMUM SENTENCE; ETHNIC GROUP; AGE; DANGEROUS DRUG STATUS; EDUCATION AND OCCUPATION ON COMMITMENT. FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1974, THE ABOVE DATA ARE SHOWN DISTRIBUTED BY AGE AND WITH ETHNIC BREAKDOWNS PROVIDED FOR OCCUPATION AND EDUCATION. A NEW SECTION HAS BEEN ADDED IN THIS EDITION TO PROVIDE A BREAKDOWN OF THE REASON FOR COMMITMENT OF THE 1974 NEW COMMITMENTS BY VARIOUS CHARACTERISTICS INCLUDING: MAXIMUM SENTENCE; EDUCATION; ETHNIC GROUP; PRIOR ADULT CRIMINAL RECORD; AND MARITAL STATUS FOR MALES AND FEMALES.
