Violence at school must be considered in terms of the changes that have occurred in France's educational system, which has expanded into a mass phenomenon and lost its traditional control mechanisms based on the separation of different types of school establishments and educational objectives.
Abstract
Several forms of violence can be distinguished: tolerated deviant behavior, violence on and off the school premises, and violence directed against the educational establishment. Each of these forms of violence calls for specific responses. Footnotes (Author summary modified)
