This grant progress report discusses activities of the Champaign County Crime Prevention Council (Illinois). It is based on the 21 projects proposed in the original 1979-80 grant year.
Abstract
The council has distributed crime prevention brochures and pamphlets to numerous agencies and civic groups, maintains an extensive library used by police officers and students, and has nine active Neighborhood Watch groups. Informal programs which have developed out of council presentations on community crime prevention consist of truancy information, probation education, bicycle safety talks, antishoplifting projects, and other activities. The council successfully established a permanent outreach crime prevention program within a local agency, trained participants in Block Mother programs, aided in developing legislation dealing with pawn shops and other second hand dealers, and supported awards ceremonies for citizens involved in crime prevention activities. Additional projects involved the initiation of a victim/witness assistance program and the development of crime prevention publicity materials. Additional notes on council activities are appended.
