Abstract
THE BOOK IS INTENDED FOR USE BY TRIAL-LEVEL DEFENDER OFFICES HAVING TWO OR MORE ATTORNEYS ON THEIR STAFF. IT IS BASED ON A SURVEY OF PROGRAMS RANGING IN SIZE FROM 12-ATTORNEY TO 100-ATTORNEY OFFICES. THE FIRST CHAPTERS OF THE HANDBOOK ARE DIRECTED AT THE EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES NECESSARY FOR CASE FILE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS. ANOTHER CHAPTER DISCUSSES THE FINDINGS OF A SURVEY OF SIX DEFENDER OFFICES WITH DIFFERING PATTERNS OF INTERNAL ORGANIZATION. THE DOCUMENT FURTHER TREATS FILES SECURITY AND INCLUDES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DESIGNING FORMS. STATISTICAL SYSTEMS ARE ALSO DEALT WITH, AND AN OVERVIEW IS PRESENTED OF HOW CASE FILE DOCUMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ARE TYPICALLY USED TO PRODUCE DATA.
