This report provided summary statistical data on felon prisoners and parolees, civil narcotic addict inpatients and outpatients, and other populations under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Corrections for 1999.
Abstract
This annual statistical report is organized into seven sections containing information on various types of custody population under the California Department of Corrections (CDC) jurisdictions which consisted of: (1) CDC population; (2) institution population; (3) behavior of inmates in institutions; (4) felon new admissions; (5) parole violators returned with a new term; (6) parole violators returned to custody; and (7) parole and outpatient population. Report highlights included: (1) the total CDC population on January 1, 2000 was 303,657; (2) on January 1, 2000, there were 117,612 felons and civil narcotic addicts on parole in California, a 5.1 percent increase from previous year; (3) institution population on January 1, 2000 was 160,687, a 0.7 percent increase from the previous year; (4) there were 42,936 felon new admissions to prison during 1999, a 7.7 percent decrease from 1998; and (5) the design bed capacity of CDC institutions and camps on January 1, 2000 was 80,272. The population was 190.3 percent of the design capacity. In addition, a reference guide included: institution acronyms, names and locations, county and area of commitment map, county and region of parole map, and glossary of terms and acronyms.
