This deskbook emphasizes practical problems involved in conducting juvenile court hearings and is intended to provide a reference source for California's juvenile court judges.
Abstract
The first section deals with the purpose and scope of California juvenile court law and considers the role of parents and juvenile delinquency prevention. Subsequent sections cover jurisdiction and venue, including a discussion of exclusive and original jurisdiction, and review certification hearings, the juvenile court process, and police and intake investigations. The deskbook also contains guidelines for petitioning minors, with policy guidelines given for delinquent and predelinquent, citation, and dependent cases. Final sections examine juvenile court hearings, specifically court calendaring and hearing procedures, detention hearings, probation officer responsibilities, rights of minors in detention facilities, jurisdiction hearings, disposition hearings, certification hearings, and supplemental hearings. Tables of statutes, rules, and cases are included.
