The number of parolees in California on December 31, 1992, are presented by region, sex, race/ethnicity, age, and offense.
Abstract
As of December 31, 1992, there were 80,815 California felons receiving parole supervision, an increase of 3,695 parolees since December 31, 1991. Of the total number of parolees, 73,177 were males, and 7,638 were females. The largest group of parolees were originally committed for controlled substance possession (12.9 percent), followed by those committed for robbery offenses (9.1 percent). The smallest group of parolees were originally committed for marijuana possession. Violent offenders accounted for 25.5 percent of the felon parole population. Almost half of the felon parolees were in the 25- to 34-year-old age group. Of the 80,815 parolees, 23,507 were white, 26,899 were Hispanic, and 26,602 were African American. Region IV accounted for the largest percentage of the felon parole population (33.3 percent). This region covers Imperial, southeastern areas of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties. 4 tables
