This report describes California's cooperative State and local crime prevention efforts from October 1981 through July 1982, focusing on certain facets of program operation and the benefits produced.
Abstract
The goal of the Community Crime Resistance (CCR) Program has been to identify successful crime prevention programs, disseminate information on successful anticrime techniques, and increase the number of citizen volunteers active in crime prevention ventures. Following descriptions of legislative and program histories, the evaluation mode, funding background, and initial project selection are discussed; new projects and their funding amounts are also listed. Contractual objectives and accomplishments are then portrayed for continuing projects. The impact of project efforts was examined through four analyses: (1) effect on the number of residential burglaries within each participating agency's target area, (2) satisfaction of citizens with the projects' efforts, (3) the range of benefits derived from increased neighborhood unity, and (4) the need for program continuation and expansion. The report concludes that CCR has fulfilled legislative intent and program management expectations. In the main, CCR projects have made adequate progress toward the achievement of both project-specific and programmatic goals. Recommendations for improvement are offered. Appended are project site reports, legislation, the task force roster, project addresses, the questionnaire, survey description, and evaluation data sheets.
