In addition to summarizing Bureau of Justice Statistics programs and activities for fiscal year 1987, this report presents the latest statistical information on a variety of criminal justice topics.
Abstract
BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates statistical information on crime, crime victims, offenders, and justice system operations at all governmental levels; provides financial and technical support to State statistical and operating agencies; and analyzes national information policy on such issues as privacy, confidentiality, and security of criminal justice data. The report also describes new BJS initiatives to improve the quality and coverage of data on crime, crime victims, and the criminal justice system. The report's final sections describe the activities of individual State statistical agencies, which the BJS supports and that perform functions for States similar to those performed by the BJS at the national level. 9 figures and 3 tables
