Abstract
The opening chapter describes normal and complicated grief, describes the meltdown process and the facilitation of meltdown, and discusses activities and methods for helping young children and teenagers cope with completed grief. Additional chapters focus on the specific issues and techniques for addressing grieving in specific situations: suicide; AIDS; homicide and other violent crimes; and child abuse that is physical, verbal, or sexual. The use of symbolic expressions of commemorating, exploring dreams, using drawing and storytelling, visualization techniques, silence, and memory work are explained. Further chapters focus on ways to include children in a funeral or memorial and ways for teachers and schools to be involved.
