RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF LOS ANGELES BLACK COMMUNITIES SHOWING COMMUNITY AND CRIME PROBLEMS AND ATTITUDES TOWARD POLICE SERVICE.
Abstract
THE QUESTIONNAIRES WERE ADMINISTERED TO A RANDOM SAMPLE OF THE BLACK RESIDENTS BY POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICERS. RESULTS SHOWED THAT IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, RESIDENTS WANT LESS FORMAL INTERACTION WHERE THE OFFICER CAN GET TO KNOW CITIZENS. A SECOND MAJOR FINDING SHOWED THAT SPOKESMEN FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY MAY NOT REPRESENT A MAJORITY OR A HETEROGENEOUS GROUP OF CITIZENS.
