FILM WHICH EXAMINES THE QUESTION OF WHAT CONSTITUTES AN 'UNREASONABLE' INVASION OF PRIVACY BY THE POLICE.
Abstract
AN ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE BY THE POLICE OF A BOOKMAKING OPERATION RESULTS IN THE ISSUANCE OF A SEARCH WARRANT. ARRESTS ARE MADE AND THE EVIDENCE SEIZED. IN A PRETRIAL HEARING ON A MOTION TO SUPPRESS THE EVIDENCE, BOTH THE DEFENSE AND PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS ARGUE WHETHER THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO PRIVACY OF THE ACCUSED WAS VIOLATED BY THE SURVEILLANCE. AFTER A DISCUSSION OF THE IMPORTANCE AND COMPLEXITY OF THE CONCEPT OF PRIVACY, THE FILM IS LEFT OPEN-ENDED, AND THE VIEWERS ARE ASKED TO DECIDE THE ISSUE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
