The film presents various situations in which children encounter strangers under potentially dangerous circumstances. Designed for elementary and junior high school students, the film may be stopped at various points to allow children viewing the film to discuss each situation for themselves.
Abstract
Crime prevention strategies are emphasized with each situation portrayed. Children are urged to never go with strangers or accept gifts from them, never to hitchhike, and never to tell strangers on the telephone that they are home alone. They are encouraged to go out with a friend instead of alone; to report unusual incidents to their parents or someone else they trust, such as a teacher; and to learn to be responsible for their own safety. On several occasions, the film recommends that children be polite but firm in dealing with adults. (See NCJ-92530 for Part 2.) (Author summary modified)
