By providing an aerial vantage point and fast, safe, and reliable transportation, Bell helicopters play an important role in the police operations of more than 32 countries.
Abstract
Because of the aerial vantage point, the police helicopter has the unsurpassed agility necessary for information gathering, coordination of activities, and search and rescue operations. The overall view available from the air also is invaluable in disaster and traffic planning. Many optical devices and cameras are available to aid observations day or night: binoculars, infrared equipment, and searchlights. Additional equipment includes floats, helicopter-mounted weapons systems, and a variety of protective clothing and armoring. Moreover, radio equipment can improve communications and facilitate air-ground coordination and meet local communication network requirements. Because of its speed an maneuverability, the helicopter is a prime mover of both people and cargo. Equipment is available to expand capabilities for emergency medical transportation, police team deployment, rescue, rapid delivery of equipment, and spraying and tear gas dispensing. Functions performed by police helicopters have included apprehending criminals, confiscating contraband, monitoring illegal alien movements, tracking suspects, deterring crime, coordinating antiriot and antiterrorism actions, and maintaining public order and safety. Photographs, listings of law enforcement agencies using Bell helicopters, list of police publications, and vendor names and addresses.
