THIS PAPER OUTLINES A MODEL FOR A POSITIVE, BEHAVIORAL APPROACH TO INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT FOR USE IN JUVENILE ENVIRONMENTS AND PRESENTS SUPPORTING LITERATURE.
Abstract
THE PROPOSED MODEL ESTABLISHES A TOKEN ECONOMY IN WHICH INMATES IN JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL ENVIRONMENTS MUST EARN THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PRIVILEGES AND OPPORTUNITIES BY MEETING OR EXCEEDING SPECIFIED BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS IN EDUCATION, GROUP LIVING, AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS. A SUGGESTED METHOD OF IMPLEMENTATION IS DESCRIBED. APPENDIXES CONTAIN A LIST OF BEHAVIORS TO BE RATED, A SAMPLE RATING FORM, A SAMPLE LIST OF BEHAVIORS FOR WHICH BONUS POINTS CAN BE EARNED, A LIST OF ACTIVITIES FOR WHICH POSITIVE POINTS ARE REQUIRED, A SAMPLE LIST OF POSITIVE REINFORCERS, AND A CONVERSION TABLE FOR POINT COMPUTATION.
