AN ARTICLE ATTEMPTING TO ELIMINATE CONTROVERSY CONCERNING BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION IN CORRECTIONAL SETTINGS THROUGH AN ANALYSIS OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
IN AN EFFORT TO CURB THE SPIRALING RECIDIVISM RATES AND TO DEVELOP A TREATMENT-ORIENTED CORRECTIONAL ENVIRONMENT, A NUMBER OF CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS ARE BEING DESIGNED TO FACILITATE THE REHABILITATION OF THE INCARCERATED PUBLIC OFFENDER. OF THE MANY REHABILITATIVE PROGRAMS BEING IMPLEMENTED, IT SEEMS THOSE OF THE BEHAVIORAL APPROACH OFTEN END UP BEING THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL. SOME PERSONS VIEW THE APPROACH AS DEHUMANIZING; WHEREAS, OTHERS ASK A RETURN TO EVEN MORE STRINGENT AND PUNITIVE CONTROL OF OFFENDERS, OBSERVE THE AUTHORS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...TWH
