Abstract
THE STUDY OF JUVENILE SERVICES BEGAN WITH THE SCHOOLS FROM THE STANDPOINT OF SERVICES FOR EARLY DETECTION AND TREATMENT OF DELINQUENCY. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT, DETENTION, THE JUVENILE COURT AND DISPOSITIONS MADE BY IT, WELFARE, SHELTER AND GROUP HOME CARE, COURT SERVICES - PROBATION, PROSECUTION, DEFENSE, STATE INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND JUVENILE PAROLE. FOR ADULTS, THE STUDY COVERED LAW ENFORCEMENT, SUMMONS RELEASE, DETOXIFICATION, RELEASE ON OWN RECOGNIZANCE, JAIL FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS, PRETRIAL DIVERSION, PROSECUTION, DEFENSE, COURTS (OPERATIONS AND DISPOSITIONS), PROBATION AND PAROLE, WORK RELEASE, STATE INSTITUTIONS AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONAL CENTERS. CONDITIONS CONTRIBUTING TO DELINQUENCY AND CRIME WERE REVIEWED. THE OPINIONS OF VARIOUS OFFICIALS IN THE TEN COUNTY REGION WERE OBTAINED RELATIVE TO THIS SUBJECT. PROJECTIONS WERE MADE REGARDING THE INCIDENCE OF DELINQUENCY AND CRIME, BASED UPON INFORMATION DATING BACK TO 1960. EXTENSIVE DATA TABLES ARE PROVIDED IN EACH OF THE AREAS AS ARE NARRATIVE DESCRIPTIONS OF SOME PROGRAMS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
