This manual is designed as a guideline for performance objective-based law enforcement basic training developed for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Abstract
This introduction to criminal law begins with a discussion of the "spirit" of the law versus the "letter" of the law. Terms related to the intersection between police work and criminal law are the subject of the second section, followed by an analysis of torts versus crimes. Concepts of criminal intent covered in this curriculum include general intent, specific intent, transferred intent, and criminal negligence. The final sections examine crimes of accessories, principals, and accomplices, and entrapment. Each section includes a detailed curriculum encompassing definitions and performance objectives.
