This report examines the increase in violent crime by Asian gangs, especially those of Chinese origin, and the organized criminals they emulate and notes that these gangs have confirmed connections to the highest levels of Asian organized crime both within the United States and abroad.
Abstract
Speakers noted that law enforcement officials also claim that these same connections are responsible for the significant increase in heroin that is coming into the United States from Southeast Asia. The speakers included Federal and local law enforcement officials and prosecutors, victims of gang extortion and other crimes, and former gang members. They and written documents describe the Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asian crime organizations; drug smuggling routes and methods; the efforts of the Department of Justice and other law enforcement agencies to address the problem; and examples of specific gang activities.
